News of the family fun day

Saturday dawned bright and clear for our family fun day. More than 80 people enjoyed the warm weather at the first event of this kind that we have held. Here is Rob Watts teaching a group before they went out to put his tips into action.

We had about twenty names of family members who had signed up for our free fun day last Saturday. Imagine our surprise and pleasure when about 80 people came along!

Rob Watts and Dan Hawkins from the Rob Watts Golf Academy at Castle Royle Golf Club, were brilliant. They taught group after group of adults and children who wanted to learn more about the right way to play this game. Golf clubs were loaned out as complete beginners had a go on the par three course. Mums, Dads, Aunts, Uncles, Grandads and Grandmas together with the little ones of the family, all had a go on a bright, warm September day.

Dan had set up the Trigolf course which proved to be a great hit. People were throwing, jumping and hopping in an effort to improve their skills before play.

Debs cooked burgers and sausages until they were coming out of her ears (not literally).

The crowds were very good natured as they queued up at the first tee on the par three course ready for their free try. For many, this was their first taste of golf and what with the sunny weather they did not seem to mind at all that they had a long wait before playing.

We are intending to do more of these events and the next one will probably be next spring.

As usual, we have a lot of people to thank, too many to name here, but Justine Lawrence from BB and O was fantastic, we could not have done it without you Justine!

JUNIOR COACHING AND COMPETITIONS are continuing each weekend, and Dan will be here on Saturday and Sunday at 12.30 to coach the juniors before they play in a nine hole competition on the par three course. As usual, juniors under ten will need to be accompanied round the course.
